Constellations Counselling

Welcome to Constellations Counselling, a safe space for healing and growth. As a Vancouver, BC based counselling practice, we provide support for individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, overwhelm, relationship concerns, and trauma. We specialize in working with highly sensitive people. We understand that seeking counselling can be a vulnerable experience which is why we prioritize building safety and trust into the foundation of the counselling relationship. We know change can only happen when you feel safe.

At Constellations Counselling we believe in taking a holistic approach to counselling. By working from a holistic approach we consider the whole person, including their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We recognize that all aspects of a person’s life are interconnected and influence each other. Working from a holistic view, we acknowledge that a person’s well-being is influenced not only by their individual experiences and behaviors, but also by the larger societal and cultural factors that surround them. This approach aims to promote healing by addressing the root causes of problems and empowering clients to make changes in all areas of their lives one step at a time. It also encourages collaboration between you and your counsellor to create individualized treatment plans that address your unique needs and goals. We understand that healing is not a linear process and cannot be rushed. We always respect your need to move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.

Our clients engage in counselling for a variety of reasons. Some of the most common reasons and feelings reported by clients who seek counselling are below.

Anxiety. If you’re experiencing anxiety, you may feel overwhelmed and worried, with a constant sense of unease. It can be difficult to relax and enjoy life when you’re constantly on edge, and physical symptoms like restlessness, headaches, and stomach aches may also be present. Your thoughts may feel jumbled and racing, making it hard to concentrate on tasks or connect with others. You may also feel like you’re in a state of panic, as if someone is sitting on your chest and making it difficult to breathe.

Depression. If you’re experiencing depression, you may feel like you’re in a deep, dark hole and you can’t find your way out. Your energy levels may be low, and you may not enjoy the activities that used to bring you joy. You may also feel hopeless, and your thoughts may be consumed with negative beliefs about yourself and your life. Depression can make you feel disinterested, unmotivated, and trapped. It may lead to a persistent low mood, increased hopelessness, and irritability or intense anger. You may find yourself isolating more, feeling alone, and struggling to take care of yourself.

Stress or Overwhelm. If you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed you may feel like you are constantly juggling too many things at once and never getting a break. You may feel on edge, irritable, and have trouble sleeping. You may also experience physical symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, and stomach issues. It can be difficult to focus or make decisions, and you may feel like you are constantly falling behind or not measuring up.

Relationship Concerns. Experiencing relationship struggles can leave you feeling lonely, disconnected, and misunderstood. It can lead to feelings of anger, resentment, and sadness. Communication breakdowns and misunderstandings can leave both parties feeling unheard and frustrated, leading to a sense of hopelessness about the future of the relationship – whether it be platonic or romantic.

Trauma. Experiencing trauma can leave you feeling overwhelmed, scared, and powerless. It can trigger intense emotional responses such as anger, guilt, and shame. You may have trouble sleeping, feel on edge, and have vivid flashbacks or nightmares related to the traumatic event.

Highly Sensitive People

A warm welcome to all our fellow highly sensitive people. And if you’re not an HSP, perhaps you know one and are curious to learn more about how to support them. As Vancouver counsellors at Constellations Counselling who specialize in HSPs, we can provide guidance and support to help you better understand the traits of high sensitivity and how to manage them in a way that supports your overall well-being.

Highly sensitive people, or HSPs, are individuals who have a highly tuned nervous system that makes them more aware of subtleties in their environment. They may be more affected by noise, bright lights, or strong smells, and may need more time to process information. Empaths, on the other hand are particularly attuned to the emotions and energy of others so much so that at times it can feel all consuming. Imagine a spectrum of empathy, with empaths at the highest end, highly sensitive people in the middle, and people with strong empathy but who are not HSPs or empaths a little lower on the spectrum. This distinction helps us better understand the varying levels of sensitivity and empathy that individuals may experience. By knowing the differences between HSPs and empaths, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of their own unique traits and learn to manage their sensory input, emotions, and environment in a manner that promotes their holistic health.

Art Therapy

Art therapy is an effective therapeutic modality that can benefit highly sensitive people (and non-highly sensitive people) in many ways. If you’re looking for Vancouver counsellors who specialize in art therapy, you’re in the right place.

Highly sensitive people often find it challenging to express themselves verbally, which is where art therapy comes in. Art therapy is a therapeutic modality that involves an art therapist and client working with the creative art-making process to support physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. By working with the creative process, art therapy can help people reach deeper levels of healing that talk therapy alone cannot always achieve.
